Colman China was instructed to develop a strategic master plan for the development of a new neighbourhood to accommodate 20,000 inhabitants in Jintang, an area 30 miles outside of Chengdu.

The aim was to create a sustainable community that would mix residential with commercial, health and education facilities. By effective land use planning, shopping, work and leisure would be brought closer together, reducing journey distance enabling people to walk or cycle. The whole project was intended to reverse the current trends of large scale developments and recreate town centres in a form that referenced traditional Chinese villages, developing a uniquely Chinese contemporary style.
