Colman Architects developed a mixed use scheme in Walthamstow which incorporated a new 50,000 sq./ft. Central Library and 70,000 sq./ft. of retail and restaurant units, a 20,000 sq./ft. fitness club and 32 apartments.

The London Borough of Waltham Forest selected Henry Boot Developments as the preferred development partner in February 2001 from a short-list of developers following the submission of detailed proposals.

The distinctive form of the Library and the dramatic 3-storey glazed entrance formed the visual focus of the design and created a signature building.
